Accommodation in Venice

For a great holiday in Venice you should consider choosing an accommodation that is relatively close to the touristic venues, not necessarily in the middle of the action. Walks are always a great idea in Venice, no matter the season or the time of the day, and this will also make you feel less of a tourist, and more of an authentic Italian. You will get to see the locals picking fresh fruits and vegetables from the market gondolas, the gondoliers parking their boats and sipping their morning espresso at small cafés and you will also get to feel all the smells and savors of the traditional Italian meals that are being prepared inside whilst you’re taking the stroll.

Don’t trust ONLY the guide books

You know what you should do? You should just buy a pocket dictionary and a detailed map, put your sunglasses on and wander these streets. They’re craving for your steps! This is available for the romantics, for the walkers, for those who love discovering tiny places filled with charm. But if you’re in love with your gadgets and you love being in control all the time, then you should download these apps:

  1. Museum Guides – Most museums have official and unofficial apps with lots of insider information and this is actually the first step you should take as a passionate art or history lover. Use these apps for a great guidance through all the touristic attractions of Italy, not only Venice.
  2. Word Reference – this is a free app that we absolutely love, especially when we are looking for a precise translation of a specific word. Keep in mind that Italians are not so good with English, so you will definitely need to use something more specific that Google Translate.
  3. Foodies by Gambero Rosso – this can be considered an expensive app, but not for nothing! It is a true Italian food and wine guide for the passionate foodies that would love to try anything from fancy restaurants to street food delicacies.
